Location. Kelly Place Retreat is nestled between red rock canyons and the base of the Sleeping Ute Mountain ten miles west of Cortez, Colo. The Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, with the highest density of Ancestral Puebloan ("cliff dweller" sites, borders the Kelly Place Retreat to the north. The sculpted red rock canyons and mesas located just out the back door at Sand Canyon offer opportunities for hiking and exploration.
Hotel Features. Orchards, gardens, and courtyards surround Kelly Place Retreat, which consists of an adobe style main lodge, three cabins, and a separate apartment situated at the edge of the desert. There are over 25 documented Anasazi Indian sites on the 38 acre estate, and self guided tours to any of these are a popular pastime. Activities offered at Kelly Place Retreat include horseback riding, archaeology talks/tours and primitive pottery making. A complimentary full breakfast is served each morning.
Guestrooms. Each of the seven adobe style rooms at the Kelly Place Retreat are located in the main lodge building and have Southwestern style decor. All units are equipped with air conditioning and ceiling fans, and have their own private bathrooms. Separate cabins are equipped with kitchenettes. The cabins share a porch, fire ring and a charcoal barbecue grill.
